Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the BA or BS in Business Administration, graduates will be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to apply and synthesize the functional areas of business to make sound business decisions.
- Access, use and evaluate information in business decision making.

Requirements for the Major
1. Lower Division Requirements
A. Non-Business Core Courses (12 credits)
Complete the following non-business courses (these courses may also meet University Studies requirements): B. Lower Division Business Core Courses (24 credits)
Complete lower division business core courses: Note:
Students must have successfully completed the above lower division Business core classes with a minimum grade of C-, regardless of where the class was taken. 2. Upper Division Business Core (40 credits)
Complete upper division business core courses: (Business students should complete all lower division requirements befor taking the upper division core courses.) 3. Focus Concentration
Complete one of the following business administration concentrations: 4.
Students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA in SOU business administration courses required for graduation. 5.
Business classes taken for the major or the minor may not be taken as P/NP. 6.
Complete a total of 180 credits. Includes a minimum of 56 credits in upper division business administration or other upper division courses as approved by the Chair of the business program. 7.
Take at least 36 credits of upper division business administration courses at SOU. Additional Requirements
All business administration majors (with the exception of international students studying at SOU) are required to complete one of the following, in addition to the School of Business requirements: 1.
A minor in an area outside the student’s major concentration*. *A student majoring in Business Administration cannot pursue the Business Administration Minor. 2.
An approved SOU Certificate 3.
Nonbusiness Enrichment Area - To exercise this option a student must work with their School of Business faculty advisor to propose an alternative course grouping with a common theme. This course grouping must be at least 24 credits, including at least 16 credits of upper-division coursework, and must be approved by the School of Business Chair. Courses taken for University Studies may be counted toward this requirement; however, upper or lower division courses that satisfy the major requirements cannot be included. Completion of an enrichment area, unlike a minor or certificate, will not appear on a student’s transcript. 4.
Participation in an SOU-approved study abroad program to include a minimum of 24 equivalent quarter credits. (Coursework must be pre-approved by the School of Business Study Abroad Advisor.) |
