Certificate in Pre-Nursing

The certificate in Pre-Nursing is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in nursing. It contains all of the prerequisite coursework needed to apply to any of the accredited BSN-granting programs in the state of Oregon, including OHSU’s School of Nursing in Ashland. Students should complete at least 47 credits from the following:

Core Courses

BI 221Z - Principles of Biology: Cells 5 credits / BI 221L
BI 214 - Elementary Microbiology 5 credits / BI 214L
BI 231 - Human Anatomy and Physiology I 4 credits / BI 231L
BI 232 - Human Anatomy and Physiology II 4 credits BI 232L
BI 233 - Human Anatomy and Physiology III 4 credits / BI 233L
CH 104 - Survey of Chemistry I 3 credits +CH 104L 1 credit + CH 190 1 credit
STAT 243Z - Elementary Statistics I 4 credits
HE 325 - Nutrition 3 credits
PSY 201Z - Introduction to Psychology I 4 credits or PSY 202Z - Introduction to Psychology II 4 credits
PSY 370 - Lifespan Development 4 credits

Choose two additional upper division courses totaling at least 5 credits, with advisor approval:

One of these two upper-division courses must be a 2+ credit course coming from one of the following programs: anthropology, criminal justice, cultural geography, cultural studies, economics, environmental studies, gender or ethnic studies, gerontology, history, international studies, political science, psychology, social justice, and sociology.
